According to the relative stipulations of Water Law, and as the water administrative management department, the Ministry of Water Resources has performed its duties.  During "the fifteenth five-year plan"period, especially in 2002 upon the revision of Water Law, the water administrative management department has actively engaged in the water resource protection work. Besides the water resource protection work for the seven large watersheds, the water administrative management department also focuses on the work for water function area classification and the work for check and approval of water area pollution receiving ability so as to form a complete work link for our country's water resource protection. The water administrative management department has conducted the following key works:

1. Work for water function area classification
2. Approval of water area pollution receiving ability and give suggestions on total drainage amount restrictions
3. Strengthen the supervision management to the rive entrance drainage port
4. Engage in the water and soil conservation work and reduce pollution to water body surface source
5. The water resource real-time supervision and management system construction
