Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with the International Council Members of CCICED

Premier Wen Jiabao met in Ziguang Pavilion of Zhongnanhai on November 13 with the international Council Members who attended the 2009 annual general meeting of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).
Premier Wen said the Chinese Government highly valued the building of conservation culture from the highness of regarding it as a national strategy and promoted the sustainable development of the economy and society. In the efforts to address the financial crisis, we did not loosen the requirements for saving energy, reducing emissions and protecting the environment and tried to make the environmental protection and conservation efforts as the new economic growth engine. China incorporated the response to climate change and reduction of CO2 emissions into national economic and social development plans, and resort to legal, economic, and S&T approaches to promote the work on coping with climate change. China would attend the United Nations Conference on Climate Change to be held in Copenhagen at the end of the year and contribute to the international efforts on climate change.
The international Council Members spoke highly of the remarkable achievements made by China in terms of addressing international financial crisis, protecting the environment and alleviating poverty, and appraised China's resolve and ability to promote sustainable development. They proposed policy recommendations on environment and development issues.
