The Beijing Municipal Government released "A letter to Beijing Citizens" on June 22 in order to encourage green commuting and guarantee a "Green Olympics."

Meanwhile, the government has decided that only half of vehicles used by all-level party organs, governments and related public institutions under the Beijing administration will be in use all day long between June 23 and July 19.

Between July 1 and July 19, all the People's Liberation Army forces in Beijing, the armed police forces in Beijing, and all the enterprises and public institutions under the Beijing administration will stop using 30% of their motor vehicles, according to the measures issued by the government to curb commutes.

In addition, between July 20 and September 20, motor vehicles with license plates ending in odd numbers shall be allowed on the road on odd-numbered days. Those with license plates ending in even numbers shall be allowed on the road on even-numbered days, and 70% of government motor vehicles will be suspended from use.
