| Wen Jiabao Meets with International Members of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development |
On November 15, Premier Wen Jiabao met in Ziguang Pavilion of Zhongnanhai with the international members and delegates of the 2011 annual general meeting of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), and listened to their policy recommendations to the Chinese Government on the environment and development issues. Green development in nature is energy conservation, reduction of energy consumption, and sustainable development. People¡¯s living environment can be improved through stepping environmental protection, ecological improvement and reducing pollution. The Chinese Government has taken environmental protection as one of its tools to change the economic development mode, restructure its economy, and improving people¡¯s living standards. It will make utmost efforts in advancing the green transformation of its economy, said Wen. Environmental pollution has become a growing concern amidst rapid economic development. In order to mitigate the pollution, on the one hand, it is necessary to step up the pollution treatment and speed up the economic restructuring, on the other hand, it is necessary to enhance the environmental legislations, make great efforts in upgrading the environmental monitoring tools, and improving the monitoring level. Great attention need to be paid to setting higher environmental monitoring standards, making them meet the international level, and enabling the monitoring results to better echo the senses of the people, Wen added. Since it was founded two decades ago, the Council has put forward many policy recommendations to the Chinese government and had a positive influence, said Wen. He hoped that the Council would keep contributing to the country¡¯s environment and development undertaking.
