Minister Zhou Shengxian of MEP met with visiting Australian environmental expert Mr. Robert Vincin in Beijing on June 4, 2008. They exchanged their views on such topics as purification of water systems, soil remedy and low-carbon economy.

Minister Zhou Shengxian showed high interest of and fully appreciated the findings of Mr. Robert Vincin in such fields as soil remedy utilization and purification of water resources and control of desertification over the past years and thanked him for his contribution to environmental protection cause of China. Minister Zhou said that tomorrow is the World Environment Day. The theme of World Environment Day of 2008 is "transforming traditional concept and promoting low carbon economy". Mr. Robert Vincin has explored and studied in this field with outstanding achievements over the past years and carried out cooperation with relevant developments and regions of China in the past few years. This shows your vision. In addition, like China, Australia is a country lack of water and faces similar difficulty and option in terms of the use and purification of water resources, and there is huge potential for bilateral cooperation. MEP is willing to strengthen the exchange and cooperation with you and widely apply relevant findings to key environmental protection work of China such as emission reduction and prevention and control of water pollution in order to jointly facilitate eco environmental protection.

Mr. Robert Vincin thanked MEP for its attention to his research findings and hoped that the two sides have close communications, strengthen cooperation and jointly promote the development of environmental protection cause.
