On June 9, SEPA Minister Zhou Shengxian had talks with Mr. Carlgren, the Swedish Minister of the Environment in the Prime Minister's residence in Stockholm. Mr. Zhou introduced to his counterpart the latest development in China's environmental protection, and gave high comments on the bilateral environmental cooperation as well as the achievements. Mr. Carlgren welcomed Mr. Zhou for his visit to Sweden. He was satisfied with the cooperation between the environment authorities and hoped to deepen and extend it together with China.

On June 10, with the presence of Chinese President Hu Jintao and Swedish Prime Minister John Reinfeldt, Minister Zhou and Mr. Carlgren signed China-Sweden Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between Environment Authorities.

The MOU is a framework document providing guidance for bilateral cooperation. According to the MOU, both sides would cooperate on water pollution control, air pollution control, biodiversity protection, environmental management of chemicals, and environmental industry.
