On November 29, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with IUCN Director General Ms. Julia Marton-Lef¨¨vre. Both sides had amicable talks on the bilateral cooperation as well as the World Conservation Congress to be held in Barcelona in October next year.
At first, Mr. Li Ganjie showed a warm welcome to Ms. Lef¨¨vre for her visit. He said IUCN has cooperated closely and fruitfully with China for more than ten years. The Party Central Committee of China and the State Council has paid great attention to the environmental protection, and governments at all levels have made greater efforts in the environment field by, mostly, vigorous international cooperation through which state-of-art concepts, technologies and knowledge can be introduced, learned and absorbed. China Council is a good platform for communications, so is the cooperation mechanism between SEPA and IUCN. We need to strengthen this tie.
Ms. Lef¨¨vre said while they provide many helps and recommendations to China, the international experts have learned a lot of precious experience from it, which can become a reference to other developing countries. She hoped China is more represented in the 4th World Conservation Congress as well as the 60th anniversary of IUCN in Barcelona in October 2008.
