On November 29, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Jeremy, the visiting Director General of Industrial Department of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). Both sides exchanged views on enhancing the international cooperation and promoting bilateral environmental cooperation and sustainable development.
First of all, Mr. Li expressed his welcome to Jeremy for his visit. He said, the 17th National Congress of the CPC, which was just concluded, proposed for the first time the bid for building ecological civilization, demanding that efforts to build a resource-saving and environment-friendly society be placed at a strategic status in the drive towards industrialization and modernization, which signaled that environmental protection has been mainstreamed into the economic and social life. In this context, China is in need of enhanced cooperation with other countries, and Britain possesses a lot of good concepts, experience and technologies related to environmental protection and sustainable development that can be learned by China. He hoped that both sides would enhance the exchanges and cooperation, in order to facilitate the environmental protection and sustainable development in both countries.
Jeremy highly appraised the country's commitment to promoting the historical transformations in environment field, which, he said, would play an active role in the worldwide environment protection. The strict steps, taken by Chinese Government for the moment, may also be a good reference for UK enterprises to intensify environmental protection and sustainable development.
Both sides also exchanged views on the cooperation in the fields of environmental economic policies and environmental technologies.
