SEPA Vice Minister Zhou Jian received visiting Global CEO of British Environment and Resource Management Group, Mr. Pitt Regan at the SEPA office on November 12. The two exchanged views regarding environmental protection policies of China.

Vice Minister Zhou first welcomed the visit of Mr. Pitt Regan and introduced the headways made in the environmental protection works of China. He said that China has adopted a series of measures to accelerate the construction of resource-saving and environment-friendly society, spared no efforts in eco-environment betterment and promoted the harmonious development between man and nature. Starting from the implementation of "Three Simultaneity" to small and medium-sized enterprises and the gradual expansion to macro regional positioning to different areas, industrial parks and cities to the present implementation of strategic environmental impact assessment (EIA) over the general development planning of China, China has already achieved good effects with energy and resource-conservation and ecological environment-protection industrial structure, growth pattern and consumption mode taking initial shape.

Vice Minister Zhou noted that currently China is in the stage of rapid development, the consumption of such resources as energy and electricity is excessively huge. Therefore, the issue of resource distribution optimization should be taken into account in urban planning layout, and the EIA system should be further improved to better the coordination between economic development and environmental protection.

Mr. Pitt Regan expressed the wish for continued reinforcement of exchange and cooperation with China and contributing to the environmental protection cause of China.
