Between Jun. 1 and 5, the Special Envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping and MEP Minister Chen Jining presented at the inauguration ceremony of Sudanese President Omer Hassan al-Bashir and met with President Bashir, Sudanese Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Physical Development Hassan Hilal, and President of the University of Khartoum Prof. Soliman.
On Jun. 1, National Conference on Internet for Environment was held in Jinan Municipality, capital city of Shandong Province in East China. Vice Minister Pan Yue, Deputy Governor of Shandong provincial government Yu Xiaoming, and Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Committee of CPPCC spoke at the conference.
Between Jun. 1 and 4, the meeting of the nuclear safety regulatory committee of OECD/NEA, the high-level forum on nuclear safety culture, and the meeting of the policy team of Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) were held in Paris, France. Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua headed a delegation to the meetings and spoke at those events.
On Jun. 2, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Mr. John Lipsky, senior visiting research fellow with the Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. The two sides exchanged views on environmental protection and China-U.S. environmental cooperation.
On the same day, Zhou Ying, Chief of the Discipline Inspection Group sent by Central Commission for Discipline Inspection to MEP, and a member of the Leading Party Group of MEP, went on an inspection tour to Satellite Environment Center and had talks with the Center’s leading team.
On Jun. 3, MEP organized the initiation meeting for the appraisal and commending of the first China Ecological Civilization Award. Vice Minister Li Ganjie spoke at the meeting.
On the same day, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw, UN Assistant Secretary General and UNEP Deputy Executive Director. The two sides exchanged views on environmental issues of common concern, as well as the cooperation between China and UNEP.
On Jun. 5, the press conference on inauguration of the environmental public interest crowdfunding platform-“eco-future” was held in Beijing. Vice Minister Li Ganjie spoke at the press conference.
On the same day, MEP released national environmental protection standards the Specification on Coding of the Centralized Drinking Water Source (HJ 747-2015), Soil-Determination of Cyanide and Total Cyanide-Spectrometric Method (HJ 745-2015), and Soil-Determination of Redox Potential-Potential Method (HJ 746-2015), which shall go to effect as of July 1, 2015.
On Jun. 8, Minister Chen Jining met in Beijing with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, European Commission Vice-President for Budget and Human Resources. The two sides exchanged views on topics in the environment protection field.
On Jun. 9, the 14th China International Environmental Protection Exhibition and Conference (CIEPEC) opened in Beijing. Minister Chen Jining visited the exhibition. Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing met with the representatives of Chinese and international delegations to the event and accompanied Vice Chairperson of Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of the NPC Wang Yunlong, and Vice Chairperson of Subcommittee of Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC Xie Zhenhua to the exhibitions.
On the same day, MEP printed and distributed the “Opinions on Further Strengthening the Popularization of Environmental Science and Technology”.
Between Jun. 9 and 10, the International Consultation Meeting on the Environment and Development for the 13th Five-Year Plan was held in Beijing. Zhang Gaoli, a standing member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, met with the international delegates at Ziguang Pavilion. Minister Chen Jining spoke at the closing ceremony. UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner and Vice Minister Li Ganjie co-chaired the meeting.
On Jun. 10, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Mr. Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary for the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). The two sides exchanged views on environmental issues of common concern.
On Jun. 11, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Prach Sun, Cambodian Secretary of State for the Environment. The two sides exchanged views on the bilateral environmental cooperation in the future, and signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between China and Cambodia on Environmental Protection Cooperation”.
On Jun. 12, MEP printed and distributed the “Measures on the Appraisal and Commending of China Ecological Civilization Award” (interim).
On Jun. 13, the “Youth for Beautiful China” initiative launched by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and MEP kicked off in Beijing. Minister Chen Jining and the First Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League Qin Yizhi attended the kick-off ceremony.
On Jun. 15, Minister Chen Jining met in Beijing with a delegation headed by Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, President of Volkswagen Group China. The two sides exchanged views on issues of common concern including the control of vehicle emission.
On Jun. 16, Minister Chen Jining went on an inspection tour to Baoding Municipality of Hebei Province to inspect the air and water pollution control efforts. He met with the Secretary of Hebei provincial Party Committee Zhou Benshun and had talks with the leading officials of the province, municipality, and county concerned.
On the same day, the inauguration meeting of APEC Green Supply Chain Cooperation Network Tianjin Demonstration Center was held in Tianjin Municipality. Chief Engineer Wan Bentai spoke at the meeting.
On Jun. 17, Minister Chen Jining met in Beijing with Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of World Economic Forum. The two sides exchanged views in the environment field.
On Jun. 18, the central team of the Leading Party Group of MEP organized the first thematic study and discussion session on the “three stricts and three honests” education campaign. Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Minister Chen Jining anchored the session and spoke at the event. Vice Minister Li Ganjie, and a member of the Leading Party Group and Director General of Department of Human Resources Management and Institutional Affairs He Jie delivered keynote speeches on “strict self-cultivation and seeking truth”. Vice Minister Pan Yue, Chief of the Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua attended the session. Leading officials of the internal departments and affiliated institutions observed the event.
On Jun. 19, MEP launched a general debate on “innovation in environmental impact assessment and monitoring”. Minister Chen Jining joined the debate and delivered a speech. Vice Minister Pan Yue anchored the debate. Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing, Chief of the Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, Vice Minister Li Ganjie, Chief Engineer Wan Bentai, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua joined the debate.
On Jun. 22, China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) held a Symposium on Environment and Development Think Tanks in Washington, the United States. MEP Vice Minister and CCICED Secretary General Li Ganjie, and U.S. EPA Assistant Administrator Ms. Jane Nishida spoke at the symposium.
Between Jun. 23 and 24, the seventh round China-U.S Strategic and Economic Dialogue (SED) was held in Washington, the United States. Vice Minister Li Ganjie attended this round of dialogue and related activities.
On Jun. 24, MEP released the national environmental protection standard “Water Quality-Determination of Thallium-Graphite Furnace Absorption Apectrophotometric Method”, which shall go to effect as of Aug. 1, 2015.
Between Jun. 25 and 26, Minister Chen Jining went on an inspection tour to Hangzhou Municipality, Shaoxing Municipality, and Anji County of Huzhou Municipality, Zhejiang Province in East China to inspect the efforts in water and air environment management and promotion of ecological progress. He also met with Governor Li Qiang and had in-depth discussions on the implementation of the ten air pollution control measures and ten water pollution control measures, as well as the progress in eco-province drive.
On Jun. 27, MEP organized a theme forum on biodiversity and green development in Guiyang Municipality, Guizhou Province in Southwest China. Vice Minister Li Ganjie spoke at the forum. President of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation Hu Deping, Vice Chairman of Guizhou provincial committee of CPPCC Zuo Dingchao, and Assistant Country Director of UNDP Carsten Germer attended the meeting.
On Jun. 29, Minister Chen Jining delivered a feedback report on the processing of the air pollution law enforcement inspection report and on the deliberation of opinions on it, at the 15th session of the Standing Committee of the 15th NPC, on behalf of the State Council.
On the same day, Minister Chen Jining met in Beijing with Jon Huntsman, former US Ambassador to China and Chairman of Huntsman Group. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in the environment field.
On the same day, Vice Minister Li Ganjie met in Beijing with Luis Echavarri, former Director General of OCED/NEA. The two sides exchanged views on China’s nuclear power development and global nuclear safety issues.
On Jun. 30, MEP organized the commemorative and commending meeting at the 94th anniversary of the foundation of CPC. Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Minister Chen Jining attended the meeting and granted awards to the commended advanced collectives and individuals. Vice Minister and Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Departments under MEP Pan Yue chaired the meeting, which was also participated by Vice Minister Wu Xiaoqing, Chief of the Discipline Inspection Group Zhou Ying, Vice Minister Li Ganjie, a member of the Leading Party Group and Director General of Department of Human Resources Management and Institutional Affairs He Jie, Chief Engineer Wan Bentai, and Chief Engineer for Nuclear Safety Liu Hua.
