On Sep. 2, MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie met with a delegation led by Mr. David Bohigian, Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Commerce in Beijing. Both sides exchanged views on further cooperation in tapping the market of environmental protection industry.
On the same day MEP released the Name List of Construction Projects for Category Management of Environmental Impact Assessment, which will take effect upon Oct. 1, 2008.
On Sep. 4, MEP printed and issued a circular on further strengthening management of environmental impact assessment of bio-energy power projects in order to tighten up regulation in this area.
On Sep. 5, MEP Vice Minister Li Ganjie met with a delegation headed by senior representative for energy and environmental technology cooperation of Sweden government, Mr. Mats Denninger, in Beijing. Both sides exchanged views on further cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
On Sep. 6, satellite A and B of No. 1 Environment Satellite were successfully launched. Member of Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, also Vice Premier, Hui Liangyu sent a letter of congratulations. MEP Vice Minister, head of the leading group for environment satellite work, Wu Xiaoqing watched the launch at Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. Led by the leader of MEP discipline inspection group Fu Wenjuan, relevant staff of the Ministry and academician representatives watched the whole process at Beijing command post of General Armament Department.
On Sep. 8, MEP Vice Minister Pan Yue met with a US delegation of mayors for urban sustainability in Beijing. Both sides thoroughly exchanged views on environmental issues of common concern.
On Sep. 10, the national work meeting on water pollution control of key river basins was held in Jining, Shandong Province. MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian attended the meeting and made a speech. The meeting stressed to unify thoughts by putting water pollution control of key river basins at more urgent and important position and seriously implementing measures to rehabilitate the overloaded rivers and lakes. Vice Party Secretary of CPC Committee of Shandong Province, also Provincial Governor, Jiang Daming attended the meeting and made remarks. MEP Vice Minister Zhang Lijun presided over the meeting. Other participants included Vice Provincial Governor of Shandong Province Li Zhaoqian, Secretary-General of the Provincial Government Zhang Wanqing, related staff in charge from NDRC, Ministry of Supervision, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Agriculture and State Forestry Administration, staff from MEP departments and affiliates and related provincial (autonomous region, municipal) environmental protection bureaus.
On Sep. 12, the 14th Green China Forum- Environmental and Economic Policies and Sustainable Development of the Pearl River Delta Area- was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. MEP Vice Minister Pan Yue attended the forum and briefed guests of the staged results of China’s environmental measures. Vice Governor of Guangdong Province Lin Musheng, Director of Hong Kong Environment Agency Qiu Tenghua and Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Zhuo Qinrui attended the forum and had a discussion.
On Sep. 16, Vice Minister Zhang Lijun met with Director of Sustainable Consumption and Production Branch, UNEP-DTIE Mr. Arab and representatives of Dow Chemical in Beijing. Both sides exchanged views on strengthening capacity in emergency response.
On Sep. 18, MEP printed and issued a circular on further implementing pilot system of environmental supervisors in enterprises. Local departments were required to act accordingly.
On the same day MEP required local departments to strengthen supervision and management of environmental impact assessment of urban construction projects.
On Sep. 24, a briefing was held in Beijing where the No. 1 inspection group of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and Organization Department, CCCPC provided feedback to MEP top leaders. The inspection group leader Han Yuqun attended the meeting and the deputy leader Shi Jianyuan reported inspection results. MEP Minister Zhou Shengxian made remarks on behalf of MEP leaders to express their opinions. The briefing was attended by Li Xinli, deputy director of the inspection office, Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and Organization Department, CCCPC, all the inspection group members, members of leading Party members' group of MEP, Vice Minister Pan Yue, Zhang Lijun and Zhou Jian, leader of MEP-based discipline inspection group of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Fu Wenjuan, and principals of related departments and affiliates of MEP.
On the same day, MEP Vice Minister Zhou Jian met with Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs Mr. Jean Daniel Gerber. Both sides exchanged views on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
On Sep. 25, MEP Vice Minister Zhang Lijun met with a delegation led by Ms. Astrid Klug, Parliamentary State Secretary of German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Both sides exchanged views on further cooperation in chemical management, e-waste management, environmental industry and water resource management.
On Sep. 26, MEP Vice Minister Zhang Lijun met with John Hutton, Secretary of State of British Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform. Both sides exchanged views on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
On Sep. 27, MEP printed and issued Guidelines on Protection of National Fragile Eco-zones with a view to reinforcing protection of these places.
On the same day, MEP issued three national standards for environmental protection including Cleaner production standard Petroleum refinery industry (semi-asphaltic flux).
On the same day, MEP issued Administrative Measures on the Use of China Environmental Labels.
