On Oct. 31, Minister Li Ganjie met with Sergey Donskoy, Russian Federal Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral exchanges on environmental policies, deepening the cooperation in the environment field, and other issues of common concern.
Li began by extending warm welcome on behalf of his Ministry to the delegation headed by Donskoy and gave a brief introduction to the latest developments in China’s ecological and environmental protection and the building of an ecological civilization. At the 19th CPC National Congress that just concluded, General Secretary Xi Jinping comes up with a raft of new ideas, objectives, requirements, and plans for protecting the ecological environment and building an ecological environment, and put the building of ecological civilization at an unprecedented high position, he said. These are strategic plans designed for the sustainable and sound development of China’s economy and society and the sustainable development of the Chinese nation, which contribute China ideas, wisdoms, and solutions to addressing global environmental issue, securing global ecological security, and propelling the sustainable development of the world as a whole.
China-Russia cooperation in the environmental sector is an integral part of China’s foreign environmental cooperation and a facet of the bilateral ties between the two countries, noted Li. The two sides have engaged in a plethora of useful practices in emergency response to environmental disasters, monitoring of the quality of transboundary waters, biodiversity conservation, and solid waste management. The bilateral cooperation has been highly recognized by the State leaders. He hoped that the two sides explore new areas of cooperation in the environment sector and make greater contributions to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership of the two countries.
Donskoy spoke highly of the achievements made by China in the eco-environmental conservation, fully recognized the bilateral cooperation outcomes, and reiterated the willingness of his side to expand the pragmatic cooperation.
After the meeting, the two sides signed the minutes of the 12th meeting of the Environmental Cooperation Subcommittee under the Prime Ministers’ Regular Meeting of China and Russia.
